Breaking: Liberal infighting continues. Iggy compares Rae to...

This just in from AWM (Anteater Worldwide Media™).

Michael Ignatieff, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke-Lakeshore, former leadership contender, and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada shocked the camp of newly elected MP Bob Rae earlier this week when he compared Mr. Rae to that of the late great comedian Bob Hope. On his blog, Mr. Ignatieff made the following curious entry dated March 15th.

From michaelignatieff.ca:

I'm in rainy Vancouver knocking on doors in Quadra for Joyce Murray.
On election day I'll be in Willowdale for Martha and in Toronto Centre for Bob Hope. ....

Absolutely shocking, if you ask this reporter!!
What exactly was Mr. Ignatieff implying, and when did he first feel that the words joke and Bob Rae belong together?

Liberal insiders are saying that this may just be a case the current big dog on the hill for the LPC just spraying a little bit in the direction of the new pup, but our source close to the Rae campaign had something a little more ominous to say when we caught up with her earlier today.

"What do you mean he said Bob Rae was funny?
What do you mean, you mean the way he talks? What?
Funny how? What's funny about it?
You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little #%$&@ up maybe, but Rae is funny how, I mean funny like he is a clown, and he amuses Iggy? He makes him laugh, that Rae is here to &#%@' amuse him? What do you mean funny, funny how? How is he funny?"

The interview ended there as our source stormed out of the Starbucks almost spilling her extra large frothy coffee beverage, and she was heard mumbling under her breath something about calling Rae being a really good fellow and that Mr.A from across the river would not be happy when he hears of this. When pressed later in a telephone inquiry about the meaning of her last muttering, our source denied making the statement and asked if we knew of a good travel agent.

This all after reports of even more dissension coming from within the top ranks of the Liberal Party of Canada. Speculation that there is an active campaign against Stephane Dion from within as party leader continues to grow as the story made Canada's top political program.

Where will this all end up? Stay tuned for further updates.

Please note that we are currently having some labour unrest here at Anteater Worldwide Media™ Our edtitors have walked off the job so we expect some issues with typos, punctuation, etc, to arise over the next few days in our unbiased reporting, while negotiations between the money grubbing union and senior management forge ahead. We the management of AWM thank you for your patience.

Update March 22nd, 2008. Our crack team of management editors has spotted our error of the missed period. We apologize for our error, and would like to remind everyone out there that there really is nothing at all funny about Bob Rae.

Thank you.

Late update: Bob Hope and some political humour ht John West in the comments at SDA.

Good one! Rae, Iggy and Dion should be looking over their shoulders at Martha.

Ummm, I am not sure if the post was edited after the fact or if this an attempt a light hearted jab. The post reads like this:

I'm in rainy Vancouver knocking on doors in Quadra for Joyce Murray. On election day I'll be in Willowdale for Martha and in Toronto Centre for Bob. Hope we sweep. Believe we will.

Of course, the post-mortem was decidedly inconclusive:

Was Bob Hope ever even funny???

Good one yourself! LOL The Fiberal Farty showed exactly how much they care about Martha's opinion in the last losership election.

Okay, here we go with over analysis and partisan attacks.

He probably only meant Rae had a good sense of humour.

You guys are sick.

No, were doing ok, just laughing at the travesity of the Liberal party. I think the media has gotten tired of keeping them on life support, starting to see backlash.

I wouldn't necessarily call this the first shot accross Rae's bow, but Iggy has got to do something fast if he ever wants to lead the Liberals. Once Rae gets into the House he will be competing directly for second question and the spotlight during question period. Rae is a past party leader and knows which posts are key and which strings are the most important to pull. Make no mistake, Rae will be working hard to gain control of the pary (remember Paul Martin) and will take every opportunity to sideline Ignatieff - once this get underway, Rae will become an unstoppable force and Iggy's chances will be nil. First shot accross the bow? - maybe not but he better do something or Rae will have it all wrapped up before Iggy knows what hit him.

Iggy will definitely have to watch his back because Bob Rae will stop at nothing to get the Leader's seat. Rae is ruthless and doesn't care who or what he destroys to get his own way. As an Ontarian who "lived" through Rae Days I don't want that guy in charge of anything!

Everyone seems to be forgetting the Justin Trudeau factor. Face it; Dion, Ignatieff and Rae all represent or have links to the past, and many Liberals are desperate to hide from the legacy of Adscam, the Billion Dollar Boondoggle, Shawinigate and all the other scandals.

Anointing Justin Trudeau as the "savior" allows the Liberals to engage in vapid Obama-lite rhetoric without ever confronting their past or taking serious action to change the party and their internal culture.

Bob Rae is almost certain to attempt to knife the leader and deputy leader, my prediction si he will be swept awyay by the return of Trudeaumania.

Interesting that Thucydides offers up the scion of the clown prince of weevils as not having befouling connections to the past. What the hell does he think Trudeau is, if not a foul connection to the foul past?

Just in case anyone was not aware, the post was a joke based on the removal of 1 period from the real quote. Hey it is the Easter weekend lighten up and take a step back from politics for a bit.
