Breaking News: Bears live in Banff. Bears are dangerous.

Aussies sue federal government over bear attack.

Is it not obvious to everyone that when you are camping in the Rocky Mountains of Banff National Park, which is natural bear habitat, that you may encounter bears? I think the answer is as obvious as the answer is to the age old question: Do bears S#*% in the woods?

Next time perhaps they should stay home and take a nice relaxing swim in the waters off Australia.

Via Email: A warning to Aussies (or anyone else) traveling in the Rockies.

Update: The court rules in favour of the bears.

Why did this take 15 years to get to court?

In 1995 were the park rangers asleep or putting honey on the Aussies tent?

This article does not give enough information about the responsibility of the campers or the national park.

Did they ever catch the evil Yogi?

Many years ago, our family was camping in a B C provincial park when our site (among others) was visited by bears. Luckily, they went for our styrofoam cooler, as we huddled in our tent.

Next day, we found out the bears had been around for a few days, which explained some of the dogs in the previous nights. When we asked why tenters, at least, hadn't been warned, the response was that we should be keeping our food in the car trunk. It was never explained how this would keep the bears from attacking the tent in frustration. My husband pointed out that, in his work up-country, he didn't have a car trunk to keep his food. Luckily he didn't add, 'just a rifle'.

This is really funny. Many times I traveled in Europe with Aussies and they loved to brag about all the dangerous animals there. I heard so many stories about sharks, crocodiles, poisonous snakes and spiders and even how powerful the kick of a full grown male kangeroo, and even how dingos were known to snatch up babies for dinner. So low and behold the aussies still don't get what a bear is?? (real conservative)
